Marshawn Lynch Brings 'Beast Mode' to the PI Business

According to Deadline Amazon MGM Studios has acquired the pitch for a half-hour private investigator comedy that will feature former NFL star Marshawn Lynch. Max Searle (Dave) will serve as the creator-showrunner.

The show, which is currently untitled, features Lynch as a version of himself who, in defiance of the conventional lifestyle of a retired athlete, embarks on a new career as a private investigator in Las Vegas. He forms a partnership with a tenacious, veteran female private investigator that is as unpredictable as the cases they investigate.

Luke Dillon and Luke Maxwell will serve as executive producers for 3 Arts Entertainment. They will be joined by Will Arnett and Marc Forman of Electric Avenue, as well as Lynch, Bryon Sheng, and Diaunte Thompson of Beastmode Productions.

Lynch and Searle have both returned to Amazon following their involvement in recent studio initiatives. Lynch has most recently been seen in the Prime Video crime film The Pickup, directed by Tim Story, where she starred alongside Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson. He has also been featured in the cult comedy Bottoms, which was released by MGM in the wake of Amazon's acquisition of the studio. Searle, on the other hand, is currently co-showrunning and executive producing a Barbershop TV series for Amazon MGM, which is based on the MGM movies.

After 13 seasons in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders, and Seattle Seahawks, during which he was named to the league's All-Decade team and won Super Bowl XLVIII, Lynch transitioned to onscreen work, appearing on series such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Westworld, and The League. He is a rare recent NFL figure who has successfully transitioned to Hollywood. He was nominated for a Best Breakthrough Performance in the Independent Spirit Awards for his role in Bottoms. He has since appeared in Universal's Love Hurts and 20th/Hulu's Eenie Meanie, in addition to The Pickup. He is currently hosting his 'N Yo' City series on Prime Video's Thursday Night Football, having recently completed a role in Euphoria Season 3.

Searle's initial nomination for a WGA Award was for his work on FX's Dave, where he served as both a writer and co-EP, prior to his involvement with the new Barbershop TV series. He collaborated with Shea Serrano to develop the Netflix series Neon, which is set in the Miami reggaeton scene. Additionally, he has contributed to shows such as Only Murders in the Building, The Ranch, and Two and a Half Men.
