Make it stand out.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Adam Driver is having a stellar year and The Report is confirming that his Oscar nomination was no fluke. In The Report, he tackles a dilemma that we are grappling with more than in any other time in our government. Can we trust them to tell us the truth?

Driver is portraying Daniel J. Jones a staff member on the US Select Committee hired by Senator Weinstein to investigate the CIA post 911 interrogation tactics. He’s the perfect candidate for the job seeing that he changed his major to intelligence based on the events of 911.

The Report is based on a real-life event, however, what makes this movie work is the stellar performance of Adam Driver. Daniel is a company man that is moral and principled. Driver conveys all of this not only with words but in the quiet moments. The scenes where he is just sitting in the dungeon reading through tons of reports are poignant. His body language to his facial expressions helps convey that his character is discovering the violation of human’s rights carried out with the support of the CIA.

Anette Benning has given us stellar performances for years and in The Report, she continues that streak as Senator Diane Feinstein. Hair and Makeup assists but it's Benning embodiment of the seasoned senator that brings it home. Honorable mention goes to Jon Hamm as white House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough. His performance is steady and helps move the story.

Amazon hasn’t had the fanfare that Netflix had come award season, but The Report is a strong contender. Scott Z. Burns weaved together an informative but entertaining movie. Subject matter detailing a government violation isn't always easy to make entertaining especially in a time when people are suffering news fatigue. The other thing that makes this movie great is the pacing. It shows you some horror enough to help you understand the gravity of the situation but not so much as to sensationalized it. Burns struck a good balance. The Report pace is steady not to fast or slow allowing the viewer to follow the story easily. This takes skill because this movie feeds the audience a lot of details. I want to be clear that is not a bad thing. Burns is painting a picture utilizing Driver to connect the dots.

He could very well find himself being a double nominee come award season along with Driver as best actor.

The Report is what fall movies are about serious, great performances and memorable. I highly recommend you put this film on your list.

Scale: This movie receives a 9 for being well written, directed and acted.
