Tillman makes History with Emmy Win
Tramell Tillman's Emmy triumph for Severance Season 2 on Sunday night has established a new standard.
He is the first Black actor to receive the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award for his portrayal of Seth Milchick in the Apple TV+ drama series. The Supporting Actor category was the sole Emmys category that did not have a Black recipient. Tillman is also the first openly gay Black male to be nominated for and win the category.
He prevailed over his co-stars Zach Cherry and John Tuturro, as well as The White Lotus's Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, and Sam Rockwell, and Paradise's James Marsden, in winning the award. The actor's acceptance speech included a tribute to his mother.
He stated in his acceptance speech, “You remember what you want to remember. You make time for what you want to make time for, do the work, show up, and most importantly, for the love of God, don’t embarrass me in public. My first acting coach was tough, y’all, but all great mothers are. Mama, you were there for me when no one else was and no one else would show up. Your loving kindness stays with me, and this is for you. Thank you to the Academy. I am full. I am humbled. I am honored. And as my mama would say, ‘Look at God.’”
