A New Game of Thrones Prequel: The Tall Tale of Ser Duncan the Tall
HBO announced on Monday that its latest Game of Thrones spinoff, titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will premiere in January. While no precise date has been announced, the network has released new key art starring Ser Duncan the Tall (also known as Dunk, performed by Peter Claffey from Bad Sisters) and his bald, youthful squire, Egg (played by Dexter Sol Ansell from Emmerdale). The tagline reads: "A tall tale that became legend."
The official logline for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms states that it is “set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory.” It also mentions that “great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
Owen Harris, known for directing the acclaimed “San Junipero” episode of Black Mirror, as well as episodes of Mrs. Davis, Misfits, and The Twilight Zone, will direct three episodes of the inaugural season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
The prequel series was officially announced in April 2023. It is written and executive-produced by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker, with Ryan Condal, the showrunner of House of the Dragon, along with Harris, Sarah Bradshaw, and Vince Gerardis also serving as executive producers.
