Byron Allen Inducted Into Daytime Emmys Gold Circle as 'Judge Milian' Wins

Byron Allen was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' Gold Circle Society during the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards, an honor reserved for television professionals with 50 years of contributions to the medium.

The induction took place Friday, Oct. 30, at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, theGrio reported. Allen joined fellow 2026 Gold Circle inductees Patrika Darbo, Francesca James and Meredith Vieira, according to The Contending, while Stephen Brown and Rubin Ervin entered the Silver Circle.

A win for 'Judge Milian' on the same night

Allen also left with a trophy. His courtroom series Justice for the People with Judge Milian, starring Judge Marilyn Milian, won outstanding legal/courtroom series over Caught in Providence, Divorce Court and Mathis Court with Judge Mathis. Allen executive produces the show with his mother, Carolyn Folks, along with Jennifer Lucas and Patricia J. Wilson.

In an Instagram caption quoted by theGrio, Allen Media Group traced his path "from his humble beginnings as an 18 year old stand up act on the TONIGHT SHOW Starring JOHNNY CARSON" to owning what the company calls the largest private Black-owned content, media and technology company in the United States.

The family story is part of the milestone. TheGrio noted that Allen's career began after Folks left Detroit as a young single mother and landed an internship at NBC Studios, and she was at the Palladium to celebrate with him.

Allen's honor capped a Daytime Emmys night that was notable for Black winners. Tamara Tunie won lead actress in a daytime drama for Beyond the Gates, becoming the second Black performer to win that category, and the CBS soap took home four Emmys in its first season. Tracee Ellis Ross won her first Emmy for Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross, and Star Jones won her first for Divorce Court.

A Gold Circle medallion for a comic turned media owner who built his company from the ground up adds a lifetime-level honor to that night. Cup of Soul covered the night's full slate of winners in our Daytime Emmys recap and the nominations earlier this year.
