Carrie' cast on filming Mike Flanagan's prom: two weeks, 400 crew and 'We Survived Porm' shirts

Mike Flanagan's reimagining of Stephen King's Carrie brings one of horror's most unforgettable moments back to television. But recreating the infamous prom sequence for Prime Video required an enormous production effort, including hundreds of performers, extensive practical effects and approximately two weeks of filming.

Summer H. Howell, who portrays Carrie White, underwent roughly 40 minutes of makeup preparation each morning. The production relied on several formulations of theatrical blood, including versions designed for her costume, skin, eyes and the bucket central to the scene.

Josie Totah, who plays Tina Blake, described a set involving approximately 400 people, while Amber Midthunder, who portrays Miss Desjardin, recalled the lengthy filming process.

The sequence was equally significant for Flanagan, whose work includes The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass and Doctor Sleep.

CupofSoulShow also spoke with Flanagan about his approach to bringing Carrie to a new generation, continuing our coverage of the filmmaker's distinctive storytelling and relationship with the horror genre.

Matthew Lillard, who plays Principal Grayle, recalled a conversation with Flanagan that prompted the director to address the cast and crew about the importance of recreating such an iconic moment.

The production even inspired commemorative shirts reading "We Survived Porm," a deliberate misspelling referencing a joke in the series. The shirts were distributed among cast members, crew and background performers.

The ensemble also includes Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Arthur Conti as Billy Nolan and Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross.

Beyond the elaborate production, the prom sequence remains the emotional centerpiece of Carrie, exploring the devastating consequences of bullying, isolation and humiliation.

The complete first season of Carrie is streaming on Prime Video.
