Fall TV 2026: Abbott Elementary, Reasonable Doubt, 9-1-1 and the Hidden Gem You Shouldn't Miss
Fall TV is back. While the streaming algorithms push whatever's trending, some of the best shows on television are quietly returning with their best storylines in years. Here are the four premieres worth adding to your watch list this October.
Reasonable Doubt, Season 4 (Hulu, Tuesday, Oct. 6)
When we last saw Jax Stewart, her fate was uncertain. Season 4 picks up with her fighting for her life after a brutal attack leaves her family and her new law firm shaken. Meanwhile, her most loyal client sits at the center of a spiraling media disaster, and the Stewart Firm's survival is on the line.
Emayatzy Corinealdi returns as Jax, and the cast keeps getting deeper. Tank joins as series regular Eric Cropper, a wealthy recording artist used to getting his way. Meagan Good also joins as Regina Harris, a compassionate new district attorney who is nobody's fool. Morris Chestnut returns as Corey, and La La Anthony and Rutina Wesley join the recurring cast. Wesley plays Desiree Grant, a fearless entertainment journalist known for exposing problematic high-profile figures. We see you, Desiree.
Created by Raamla Mohamed Hunter and executive produced by Kerry Washington, the Onyx Collective drama remains one of the most underrated shows on streaming. The season premieres with three episodes, and new episodes drop Tuesdays through Nov. 24 on Hulu and Disney+.
Abbott Elementary, Season 6 (ABC, Wednesday, Oct. 7)
Abbott almost didn't make it. At the end of Season 5, the fictionalized Philadelphia school district came close to shutting the school down, reversing course only because of what it had already spent fixing the furnace. Now students from the schools that did close are heading to Abbott.
That means big changes. Gregory (Tyler James Williams) has been promoted to assistant principal, which shakes up his dynamic with Ava (Janelle James). The trailer also reveals that Melissa is now a union representative and Ava is no longer allowed to curse at staff. Good luck with that.
The premiere, "Jungle Classroom," is written by creator Quinta Brunson. It sees Janine giving her classroom a makeover while Melissa fights to win hers back. Mark your calendar for later this season too: the seventh episode, titled "One Hundred," will be the show's milestone 100th episode.
Abbott Elementary airs Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.
Small Prophets (Apple TV, Wednesday, Oct. 7)
This is the one you probably haven't heard of, and that's exactly why it's on this list. Small Prophets comes from Mackenzie Crook, who played Gareth in the original British The Office, and it was already a hit on BBC2. That makes it a rare acquisition for Apple, which usually only streams originals.
The magical realism series follows Michael Sleep, an isolated man living in the suburbs who discovers supernatural powers hiding in his humble shed. If you love quiet, offbeat British comedy with heart, this is your fall discovery.
9-1-1, Season 10 (ABC, Thursday, Oct. 15)
After nine seasons as a field sergeant, Athena Grant is finally a detective. Season 9 ended with her nearly killed in a police corruption case and then surviving an assassination attempt in the hospital. The experience pushed her to make the move everyone had been urging for seasons.
Season 10 opens with an active volcano erupting under Los Angeles. Athena is getting used to her new partner, Det. Newell (Rick Otto). Showrunner Tim Minear says she's both a veteran and a rookie, since she's new to holding the detective title. Elsewhere, May is starting a career in medicine, and Harry is now a firefighter.
For Angela Bassett, who is also an executive producer on the franchise, Season 10 is a milestone. Reaching 10 seasons on network television as the face of a hit drama is a legacy few actors achieve.
9-1-1 premieres Thursday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
