First Look: Christopher Nolan's Epic 'The Odyssey' Reveals Stunning Images and Prologue

The first official images and an exclusive IMAX prologue for Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated mythic action epic,

The Odyssey

, have been released, offering a glimpse into the director's most ambitious project to date. The film, an adaptation of Homer's foundational Greek poem, is the first feature to be shot entirely on IMAX film cameras and is slated for release on July 17, 2026

A Glimpse into the Mythic World

New photos from an Empire magazine exclusive provide a closer look at the all-star cast in character. Audiences can see Matt Damon as the cunning King Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as his wife Penelope, Tom Holland as their son Telemachus, and Robert Pattinson as the antagonist Antinous. 

The initial visuals highlight the film's commitment to large-scale, practical effects and a sense of realism, with Nolan explaining he "shot over 2 million feet of film" to capture the harrowing nature of Odysseus's journey home after the Trojan War. 

The Prologue Event

In a classic Nolan move, a six-minute extended prologue is currently playing exclusively before select 70mm IMAX screenings of other films. The footage reportedly depicts the iconic story of the Trojan Horse and a montage of encounters with mythical creatures like the Cyclops, setting a tone that is both grounded and fantastical.

The Odyssey boasts one of the most stacked ensembles in recent memory, with key roles confirmed as follows:
