'Jumanji: Open World' trailer reunites Dwayne Johnson and cast for Christmas finale

A new trailer for "Jumanji: Open World" brings Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan back together ahead of the action-adventure film's exclusive theatrical release Dec. 25.

According to the official synopsis, the latest installment moves the danger beyond the game: Jumanji breaks free of its console and brings its chaos into the real world after the heroes' previous escapes from its jungles. Sony Pictures describes the film as the final chapter of the action-adventure trilogy led by Johnson, Hart, Black and Gillan.

The announced ensemble also includes Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser'Darius Blain and Madison Iseman, with Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito. An accompanying publicity image places the four principal stars in an urban alley, a visual signal of the shift away from the jungle setting. Further plot details are not included in the announcement.

Jake Kasdan directs from a screenplay credited to Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, based on Chris Van Allsburg's book "Jumanji." Producers listed in the announcement are Matt Tolmach, Kasdan, Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. The publicity materials note that credits are not final.

The film has not yet received a Motion Picture Association rating, a relevant detail for parents planning holiday moviegoing. Although the campaign positions the release as a family outing, an age classification remains pending. The announcement confirms a theatrical-only opening but does not give a streaming release date.

For film fans, the central development is the combination of a returning ensemble and a premise that brings the game into everyday surroundings. The Christmas Day opening positions "Jumanji: Open World" as a holiday theatrical option, while the announced trilogy conclusion gives longtime viewers a defined endpoint for this chapter of the franchise.
