Mobland has been renewed for another season
On Monday, Paramount+ announced that it has renewed the second season of the highly successful new drama MobLand, which features Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. The announcement was made in a brief video that can be viewed below. This news is being released three weeks after the series, which was produced by Guy Ritchie, Ronan Bennett, Jez Butterworth, and 101 Studios, as well as David C. Glasser's MTV Entertainment Studios, concluded its debut on the streaming platform.
Internal streaming data indicates that the premiere episode of MobLand, which premiered on March 30 in the United States and other English-speaking markets, has garnered 26 million views over the first 70 days. In non-English-speaking territories, the show debuted on May 30, and the first nine days were paced by the same episode. According to internal global data for the initial 90 days of release, this is the second-largest launch for a Paramount original series, following Landman. Furthermore, MobLand has been included in every Nielsen Top 10 list of Streaming Originals for the past five weeks, commencing with the week following the premiere of the third episode of the series.
"MobLand has become a resounding triumph, driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez, Ronan, and David Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances of Tom, Pierce, and Helen," stated Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, with a viewership of over 26 million and increasing. "We are thrilled to approve a second season of this global phenomenon, which has ascended to the top of the UK charts and dominated both domestic and international charts."
In MobLand, a conflict between two criminal families poses a threat to the stability of empires and the lives of individuals. The ensemble, which is presided over by Hardy, Brosnan, and Mirren, also includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan, and Emily Barber.
Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, recalled, "MobLand was one of those incredible moments where Chris McCarthy approached us with the idea of creating the next great mob series. After traveling across the UK countryside in an attempt to secure Guy Ritchie, we both realized that we knew the exact formula." "We realized that vision through the exceptional talent of our cast, Ronan, Jez, and Guy."
Keith Cox, Nina L. Diaz, Ritchie, Glasser, Butterworth, Bennett, Kris Thykier, Ivan Atkinson, Hardy, Dean Baker, Anthony Byrne, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari are the executive producers of MobLand.
It is Butterworth's second successful series for Paramount+, following The Agency (for Paramount+ with Showtime), under the exclusive TV overall contract he was signed into by McCarthy.
"I was initially hesitant to commit to a television set, as it was a completely unfamiliar medium to me. However, Chris, David, and the teams at Paramount and 101 Studios transformed my perspective with their bold creative vision and razor-sharp strategic insight," Butterworth stated. "The experience of working with Chris, David, Guy, and our exceptional cast has been nothing short of inspiring, and I am eager to begin the second season of MobLand."
