Hollywood's latest streaming shake-up could change where audiences find some of their favorite television dramas.
Following Skydance's $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, executives overseeing Paramount+ and HBO are reportedly discussing whether select Paramount+ original dramas should move to HBO.
According to Deadline, the discussions remain preliminary, and no series has officially switched platforms. However, the possibility signals a significant shift in how the newly combined entertainment company plans to organize its programming.
HBO and Paramount+ Under One Leadership Team
At the center of the restructuring is Casey Bloys, the longtime HBO executive who now oversees original programming for both streaming services.
Bloys helped guide HBO through the success of critically acclaimed series including Succession, The White Lotus and The Last of Us.
Now, his responsibilities extend to Paramount+, whose original programming includes Landman, MobLand and the expanding universe of Taylor Sheridan dramas.
The challenge is determining which projects best fit each platform's identity.
HBO has traditionally positioned itself as a destination for prestige television, while Paramount+ has built its audience around franchise programming, crime dramas, CBS content and live sports.
Combining those approaches without confusing subscribers will require more than rearranging executive titles.
Which Paramount+ Shows Could Move to HBO?
Among the projects reportedly being considered as potential HBO candidates are Discretion, a legal thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning, and The Best of Us, a limited series starring Jeremy Strong that focuses on September 11 first responders.
Both projects fit the type of character-driven dramatic storytelling traditionally associated with HBO.
Still, neither move has been confirmed.
HBO drama executive Francesca Orsi and streaming executive Sarah Aubrey are reviewing the Paramount+ slate, with the possibility that some productions could receive HBO creative oversight even if they remain on Paramount+.
What Does This Mean for Subscribers?
For now, viewers should not expect immediate changes.
Paramount+ and HBO Max continue operating as separate streaming services. No merger-related subscription price increases, content transfers or account changes have been announced.
However, Skydance leadership has outlined plans to eventually combine the platforms.
That raises several important questions: Will subscribers eventually need only one subscription? Could popular Paramount+ originals receive HBO branding? And will the consolidation result in fewer opportunities for original programming?
Those answers remain unclear.
Hollywood's Streaming Consolidation Continues
The restructuring also comes with executive departures, including former Paramount streaming chief Cindy Holland and Paramount+ originals executive Jane Wiseman.
Their exits reflect a broader industry transformation as major entertainment companies consolidate operations and seek to reduce costs.
For audiences, the real question isn't which executive controls the programming slate.
It's whether combining two major streaming brands will deliver better television—or simply leave viewers with fewer choices.
