Toni Braxton to star in and executive produce two new Lifetime movies inspired by her hit songs.
Grammy winner Toni Braxton is set to headline two upcoming movies for Lifetime as part of her multi-picture deal with the network.
Inspired by her 2000 hit song of the same name, Braxton will star alongside Essence Atkins (Ambitions) and Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) in He Wasn’t Man Enough. The film is scheduled to premiere on November 22 at 8/7c as part of Lifetime’s Love of a Lifetime November romance movie slate.
In the film, Braxton portrays bestselling author Mel Montgomery, whose life begins to unravel when she discovers that her boyfriend, Richard (Thomas Cadrot, The Night Agent), has been deceiving her. When Mel finds out that Richard is now engaged to her estranged college friend Monica (Atkins), the two women, with the support of Mel’s loyal best friend Candy (Brown), put aside their past grievances to unite. What starts as a tale of betrayal evolves into a story of resilience and solidarity, demonstrating that Richard chose the wrong trio to cross. In the end, it was the women's bond that mattered, not the man who let them down.
Braxton’s single “He Wasn’t Man Enough” reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for several weeks, and it held the number one position on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Tracks chart for four weeks.
Debuting in 2026, Toni Braxton’s Breathe Again, reunites Braxton with Atkins, along with Emmy winner Cree Summer (A Different World, Rugrats). The film follows three women—Jennifer (Braxton), Vanessa (Summer), and Evelyn (Atkins)—who meet as contestants on a reality dating show and suffer heartbreak under the spotlight. Their shared rejection sparks an unlikely sisterhood that carries them from Los Angeles to a new life in Seattle. There, they navigate fresh starts, second chances, and the messy, hilarious realities of dating, friendship, and family. Jennifer rediscovers her voice as an artist, Vanessa rebuilds her interior design business while opening herself to love again, and Evelyn faces her grief by daring to embrace joy and possibility. Along the way, the women learn that while romance may come and go, female friendship is the love story that lasts a lifetime.
Both films are executive produced by Toni Braxton, Tanya Lopez, and Kenneth Crear for Lifetime. Stan Brooks directs both movies. Toni Braxton's "He Wasn't Man Enough" is executive produced by Gemma Martini and produced by Lighthouse Pictures, with a script written by Aireka Muse, Tara Knight, and Angela Nissel. Toni Braxton's "Breathe Again" is executive produced by Howard Braunstein, based on a script written by Nikita Hamilton.
