A24's You Can See Everything did more than claim its first No. 1 weekend. The documentary from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim helped push October's domestic box office to roughly $590 million, about 37.5% above October 2025, TheWrap reports.
Without the documentary, the month would have landed near $530 million, still about 23.5% ahead of last October's $429 million, when Tron: Ares was the top film. October 2026 still trails October 2023, which reached $556 million with help from Taylor Swift's concert film.
The film, which premiered at Telluride in August after Fielder and Oppenheim shot it in secret, passed $60 million domestic in its third weekend and stood at about $63 million. That makes it October's second-highest grosser behind Amazon MGM's Verity at $73.5 million. Its run moves it past Civil War and Everything Everywhere All at Once to No. 3 on A24's all-time domestic list, behind Backrooms at $197.5 million and Marty Supreme at $96 million.
Why the month matters
October is usually one of the softer stretches of the moviegoing calendar, squeezed between late-summer releases and the holiday season. A strong showing gives theaters momentum heading into November and December, when many awards contenders and holiday titles arrive. September 2026 also posted a strong total of $609 million, and TheWrap notes the domestic market is on pace for about $10.5 billion for the year.
For independent distributors, a documentary breaking out at this scale is a rare signal that audiences will show up for nonfiction in theaters when the conversation around a film catches fire, an encouraging sign for the many documentaries by and about Black and Latino storytellers competing for screens this season.
