Stephen King's haunted hotel room is reopening. Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer will lead a sequel to the 2007 horror film 1408, with Elijah Wood in a supporting role, Variety reported, according to Dread Central and JoBlo.
Mikael Håfström, who directed the original, returns to direct from a script he co-wrote with Mark Verheiden. Spyglass is behind the sequel, and production is slated to begin in early 2027. Plot details have not been released, and no release date has been set. Wood is known to TV audiences for Yellowjackets, JoBlo noted.
Original stars reportedly in talks
The first film's leads may also check back in. John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson are negotiating to reprise their roles as author Mike Enslin and Dolphin Hotel manager Gerald Olin, according to a report from Daniel Richtman cited by Dread Central. If those deals close, both would play smaller roles this time. Neither actor's return has been officially announced by the studio. Dread Central first published the sequel report on Nov. 6, crediting Richtman, before updating its story with Variety's details on Dyer and Wood.
The original 1408, adapted from King's short story, followed Cusack's writer as he investigated a notorious room at New York's Dolphin Hotel, with Jackson as the hotel's manager. It grossed more than $131 million worldwide, Dread Central reported, on a reported production budget of $22.5 million. It was released under the Dimension Films banner. JoBlo noted that Cusack has previously said 1408 is the one film of his he would want to make a sequel to.
