1923 Season finale explained

Alex and Spencer

Alex (Julia Schlaepfer) gives birth to her and Spencer's (Brandon Sklenar) baby boy, who is preterm and has some complications, but his delivery appears to be successful. One of the show's final scenes features Cara caring for the baby when Liz (Michelle Randolph) leaves Yellowstone pregnant. Earlier in the episode, Alex informed Jacob that she believed the baby's name could be John, after Spencer's late brother (James Badge Dale) and Jacob's other nephew. While we know she wanted the baby to be named John, we don't know if this is the true name or if it's John Dutton II.

Addendum- The voice over states that Spencer takes up with a widow and has another son that could be John Dutton II

Elizabeth Dutton

Liz also leaves pregnant. So there is a probability that this baby will be John Dutton II, given that he is the son of John Sr.'s grandson. But doesn't this mean a generation is skipped? Who knows? If we delve into the specifics of these names, we'll be completely baffled. Anyway, Elizabeth and Jack's child may be John III's grandfather, or possibly another future Dutton.

Matthew McConaughey

He is suppose to be the patriac in 1944 and could possibly be John Dutton II.

Future of Yellowstone

We know that one of the three Dutton children is most likely John Dutton II—Alex and Spencer's child, Spencer's child with the widow, or Liz and Jack's child. The other two could have died at some stage. What if they didn't? Are there any more Duttons out there? Did Yellowstone simply disregard them?

And will The Madison, a Yellowstone offshoot that currently lacks Duttons on its canvas, truly be a Yellowstone spinoff without them? That would be difficult to imagine. Is Michelle Pfeiffer, or anyone else on the program, a secret Dutton? We'll have to wait to find out, but it's entertaining to imagine the people on this program as descendants of one of the aforementioned offspring.
