A New Destiny Awaits: Liam Hemsworth Takes Up the Mantle in The Witcher Season 4

“Something is shifting on this continent,” Yennefer warns in the newly released trailer for Season 4 of Netflix's The Witcher, which will premiere all eight episodes on Thursday, Oct. 30. While her warning is chilling, it barely scratches the surface—many things are in flux across this continent.

To begin with, Geralt of Rivia is now portrayed by Liam Hemsworth. Although we’ve had some time to adjust to this change (original actor Henry Cavill announced in October 2022 that he would be passing the torch to Hemsworth after three seasons), it remains a fact that we are now entrusting our collective coin to an entirely different face.

The trailer suggests that The Witcher will address the significant casting change, at least in part, mentioning that Geralt is “in a state of flux” and “becoming something new.”

Additionally, the trailer shows Geralt and Yennefer assembling an army to rescue Ciri and ultimately defeat Vilgefortz. (However, it’s worth noting that a fifth and final season is still planned, so a definitive happy ending may not be on the horizon just yet.)

The official Season 4 premise elaborates on the obstacles facing Geralt and his companions: “After the Continent-altering events of Season 3,” it states, “Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and numerous enemies. As their paths diverge and their goals sharpen, they encounter unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. If they can embrace these found families, they may have a chance to reunite for good.”
