Tom Cruise: The global superstar, known for his dedication to practical stunts and action-packed blockbusters like the Mission: Impossible franchise and Top Gun: Maverick, was recognized for his immense impact on the film industry and his long, successful career as an actor and producer.
"I will always do everything I can to help this art form, to support and champion new voices, to protect what makes cinema powerful — and hopefully without too many more broken bones,” Cruise shared.
Debbie Allen: A true force in entertainment, Allen was honored for her legendary career as a dancer, choreographer, director, and actress. Her work on projects like Fame and her enduring influence on performing arts were celebrated with a much-deserved Oscar.
During her acceptance speech, Debbie Allen emphasized the impact her award would have on those who need a path of possibility and inspiration. She also made a lighthearted comment about her Oscar, saying it was "like I got married" and that she would be taking it to work with her
Wynn Thomas: A pioneering production designer, Thomas received an Honorary Oscar for his significant contributions to film. He is notably recognized as the first African American production designer to join the Art Directors Guild and has worked on numerous iconic films, including Do the Right Thing and Hidden Figures.
"Visibility is everything... for those coming behind us to see that the door is open, that they can be here, that they are worthy. That is our responsibility,” Thomas stated.
Dolly Parton Receives the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award
The evening’s most anticipated humanitarian award was presented to the beloved country music legend and philanthropist, Dolly Parton. She was recognized with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her extensive charitable work, particularly her "Imagination Library," which has provided millions of free books to children around the world, as well as her generous contributions to numerous other causes, including COVID-19 vaccine research.
"I always say that I want to keep my life full of joy and my hands full of work... and I believe we’re here to help each other, especially the children,” Parton shared.
