Andra Day Joins Percy Jackson Season 2 Cast as Annabeth's Mother, Athena
Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians has chosen a remarkable talent—an award winner of Golden Globe, Grammy, and Emmy accolades—to portray Annabeth’s mother.
R&B singer and actress Andra Day will take on the role of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, as announced on Sunday at D23 Brazil.
Day, who won a Golden Globe for her performance in the title role of 2021’s The United States vs. Billie Holiday, shared this exciting news herself in the video shown below. (For reference, CSI: NY’s Melina Kanakaredes portrayed the same role, Annabeth’s mother, alongside Alexandra Daddario in the 2010 film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.)
Adapted from Rick Riordan’s bestselling book series, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the fantastical story of Percy Jackson (played by Walker Scobell), a modern demigod who is just beginning to understand his divine powers. He is tasked with finding the missing lightning bolt of Zeus, the Greek god. With assistance from his friends Grover and Annabeth (played by Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries), Percy embarks on a cross-country quest to retrieve the bolt and prevent a war from erupting among the gods.
Upcoming episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, slated for a 2025 release, will focus on The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Rick Riordan’s cherished series.
