Brittany O’Grady will star in State of Emergency, a new thriller following a Boston 911 dispatcher whose overnight shift becomes a fight for survival as a mysterious catastrophe threatens the city.
Greg Yaitanes, whose directing credits include House of the Dragon and Presumed Innocent, will direct from a screenplay by Arcane writer Nick Luddington. Production is expected to begin in 2027, according to Deadline.
The story centers on Jenna, a dispatcher returning to work while grieving her teenage brother. She remains haunted by a call he made to her in his final moments—a call she missed.
An apparently ordinary night begins to unravel when callers report strange incidents connected to an event in Boston Harbor. As the danger moves closer to the dispatch center, Jenna faces an emergency that reaches beyond the voices coming through her headset.
The premise gives O’Grady a central role with both emotional and physical stakes. Jenna’s work requires her to respond to other people’s worst moments while carrying the memory of someone she could not help. That tension offers the film a personal foundation beneath its larger catastrophe.
O’Grady, known to television audiences for The White Lotus, will collaborate with a director experienced in building suspense across medical dramas, crime stories and fantasy.
Yaitanes described the thriller genre as a lifelong passion in a statement accompanying the announcement and praised O’Grady as a rising talent.
FilmNation’s Infrared Pictures is financing the project and producing alongside Sam Brown and Dustin Thomason through Curiosity Media.
A release date and additional casting have not been announced.
