Cillian Murphy returns as Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man movie on Netflix
It's finally happening. Fans can rejoice as the story of the infamous Birmingham gangster family will officially continue on Netflix in the feature-length film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The movie promises to be an explosive chapter, with creator Steven Knight returning to write and Cillian Murphy set to reprise his iconic role as Tommy Shelby.
The film, which has already wrapped production, is set during the Second World War. Details are still under wraps, but the conflict will likely provide a dramatic backdrop for the next chapter in Tommy Shelby's life. According to Steven Knight, the film will be "the same, but different" and will feature a new generation of the Shelby family taking the wheel.
For fans who felt the series finale was not a proper ending for Tommy Shelby, this film is designed to provide a definitive bookend to the long-running story. Cillian Murphy told The Observer in a 2025 interview that he agreed to return after receiving a "really good script".
"It's a proper bookend to the whole 36 hours of television," Murphy explained, expressing his sense of duty to the fans who made the show a success.
And the story won't end there! Netflix and the BBC have also announced a new, two-season sequel series that will follow a new generation of Shelbys in 1953, exploring how the family and city rebuild after the Birmingham Blitz.
