Druski hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time on Nov. 7, becoming the first internet comedian to host the NBC sketch show, TheWrap reported. The Strokes were the musical guest, making their fifth appearance on the show, according to TVLine.
Druski built his following with comedy videos on Instagram before moving into mainstream TV, including hosting the BET Awards in June. His SNL booking was announced in October alongside John Mulaney, who hosts the Nov. 14 episode.
Emma Stone drops in, and a 'You Can See Everything' parody
Emma Stone, a five-time host, crashed Druski's monologue and offered the first-timer some advice, TheWrap reported. The two star opposite each other in an upcoming film. In the monologue, Druski said he would not be doing a "watered down" version of the show.
He followed through in a pre-taped parody of You Can See Everything, Nathan Fielder's documentary about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. In the sketch, Jane Wickline plays Holmes and Ben Marshall plays Billy Evans, who ask Druski to make their documentary. Druski first plays a Fielder-style filmmaker, then plays Holmes himself in whiteface in his own version, titled Dru Can See Everything. The bit drew on his viral videos in which he dresses as white women, TheWrap noted.
The parody landed as Fielder's film is still in theaters. You Can See Everything has earned $78.9 million domestically, according to TheWrap's weekend box office report.
Why it matters
Hosting SNL is one of the clearest signs that a comedian has crossed over to a national TV audience. For Druski, the episode caps a run that has also included a new Netflix deal. It also puts a comedian whose career started on social media at the center of one of TV's most established comedy stages.
