HBO Max's Heated Rivalry has reportedly landed an early renewal for Season 3, and a standalone holiday movie set in the same world is also in the works, TVLine reported on Nov. 7, citing Deadline. TVLine said it had reached out to HBO Max and Crave for confirmation.
According to the report, Seasons 2 and 3 are being filmed back to back. Each is expected to run six episodes, with production set to wrap in late November or early December.
A holiday movie for Scott and Kip
The planned holiday film would center on Scott and Kip, played by François Arnaud and Robbie G.K. Production is eyed for December, with a theatrical release targeted for December 2027, per TVLine. Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, who lead the series, will not appear in the movie.
The series is adapted from Rachel Reid's Game Changers novels. Its cast also includes Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, Christina Chang and Dylan Walsh.
Why it matters
An early pickup while the next season is still filming is a strong signal of how much the network is betting on the series. A theatrical holiday spinoff would also take the franchise beyond streaming and into movie theaters, giving fans of a supporting couple their own story.
The show's reach has spilled into the wider culture: on Nov. 7, TheWrap reported that Jimmy Fallon worked a Heated Rivalry joke into The Tonight Show.
No premiere date for Season 2 was included in the report.
