Inde Navarrette will receive the Rising Star Award at the 2027 Palm Springs International Film Awards for her performance in Focus Features' Obsession, the Palm Springs International Film Society announced Monday.
The award will be presented Jan. 7, 2027, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, according to the festival's announcement, which Variety first reported. The festival itself runs Jan. 7-18.
"Inde Navarrette delivers a performance in Obsession that is impossible to look away from," festival chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi said in a statement. "The Rising Star Award exists to celebrate exactly this kind of breakthrough talent, and we could not be more excited to welcome Inde to Palm Springs."
A breakout year keeps building
Written, edited and directed by Curry Barker, Obsession centers on Bear, a hopeless romantic who breaks a mysterious "One Wish Willow" to win over his crush, only to learn the wish carries a sinister price. Navarrette plays Nikki Freeman opposite Michael Johnston, with Megan Lawless, Cooper Tomlinson and Andy Richter rounding out the cast. According to the festival, the horror film holds a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, has grossed more than half a billion dollars worldwide and recently landed a Gotham Award nomination.
The Palm Springs nod adds another early-season spotlight for one of the year's most visible Latina breakouts. Navarrette first drew wide attention in the fourth and final season of Netflix's 13 Reasons Why, was a series regular on The CW's Superman & Lois and made her Sundance debut in 2020's Wander Darkly opposite Sienna Miller and Diego Luna. Next up, she plays Rogue in Marvel's upcoming X-Men film and stars in and executive produces The Waffle House Index, a sci-fi thriller from Apple Original Films and Plan B Entertainment. Cup of Soul recently tracked her awards-season run, including her turn as "SNL" host.
Palm Springs has a history of spotlighting young performers on the way up. Past Rising Star recipients include Ariana Grande, Timothée Chalamet, Alicia Vikander, Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Kendrick and Scarlett Johansson.
Navarrette joins previously announced 2027 honorees Seth Rogen (The Invite), Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton, who will receive the Vanguard Award.
