Michael B. Jordan Is Thomas Crown: First Poster Drops for the Stylish Heist Reboot
Amazon MGM Studios just gave us our first real look at Michael B. Jordan's take on "The Thomas Crown Affair," and the image alone tells you this one is going to be dripping in old-Hollywood cool. The one-sheet dropped Tuesday morning, with Jordan posed in a crisp white tuxedo, black bow tie, diamond earrings, and leather driving gloves — every inch the art thief with impeccable taste. A teaser trailer follows Wednesday.
The Third Time Around
This is the second remake of Alan Trustman's original 1968 script, which starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway as a wealthy thief and the insurance investigator hired to bring him down. Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo revived the cat-and-mouse romance in 1999. Now Jordan steps into the role of Thomas Crown — a billionaire who pulls off an audacious art heist by using another robbery as a diversion — while directing the film himself.
What makes this iteration land differently isn't just the update; it's who's behind the camera and in front of it. Jordan isn't just headlining a classic property, he's steering it, joining the short list of Black actors who've taken full creative control of a legacy Hollywood franchise. That's the kind of access-and-authorship story Cup of Soul has always been here for.
The Cast Bringing the Heat
Adria Arjona (fresh off "Andor") steps into the investigator role opposite Jordan, after Taylor Russell exited the project over creative differences. Rounding out the ensemble is a genuinely stacked cast: Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, Ruth Negga, and Aubrey Plaza. Drew Pearce ("Iron Man 3," "The Fall Guy") wrote the screenplay, Bradford Young is behind the camera, and Jon Batiste is composing the score — a lineup built for a film that wants to look and sound as good as its lead is dressed.
When to See It
"The Thomas Crown Affair" hits theaters and IMAX on March 5, 2027, distributed by Amazon MGM Studios domestically and Sony Pictures internationally. Between the poster's old-money glamour and a cast this deep, this is shaping up to be one of the more stylish studio bets of next year — and one worth tracking closely here on Cup of Soul as the campaign rolls out.
