Nic Pizzolatto and Skydance Sports are collaborating on a football drama that will premiere on Netflix starring Matthew McConaughey and Cole Hauser.

In a competitive situation, Netflix has secured an untitled drama project featuring Matthew McConaughey and Cole Hauser, who will also serve as executive producers. The project comes from Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of True Detective, and Skydance Sports, which is now part of Paramount, as confirmed by Deadline.

Details are limited, but the project is thought to be set in the world of football—whether college or professional remains unclear. It reportedly began as a show about two brothers, portrayed by McConaughey and Hauser.

The two actors have been friends for two decades, having starred together in the 1993 film Dazed and Confused, and they have been exploring this idea over the years.

This marks the latest collaboration between McConaughey and Pizzolatto. The Oscar-winning actor starred alongside Woody Harrelson in the first season of HBO's True Detective. McConaughey and Pizzolatto previously teamed up for the straight-to-series FX drama Redeemer, which ultimately did not move forward. They have also recently reunited for a film adaptation of the ‘Mike Hammer’ book series.

Additionally, McConaughey and Harrelson co-star in a brotherly series on Apple TV+. The pair's real-life friendship inspires this comedy. Meanwhile, Hauser, known for his role as Rip Wheeler in the hit Paramount Network series Yellowstone, is reprising his character in the upcoming spinoff titled The Dutton Ranch (working title). He will star alongside fellow Yellowstone alum Kelly Reilly and Annette Bening.

McConaughey is represented by WME and Yorn Levine Barnes. Hauser is represented by IAG and Yorn Levine Barnes. Pizzolatto is represented by WME and Anonymous Content.

The news regarding the Netflix sale was initially reported by THR.
