When The Heart Calls returns for season 13

The people of Hope Valley are returning for another season of When Calls the Heart. The Hallmark Channel series, set in the early twentieth century, follows schoolteacher Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) as she relocates from the city to a small village to teach. The show tackles the trials of life in Hope Valley, as well as friendship, romance, and all of the life lessons in between.

The long-running sitcom, which debuted in January 2014, has been renewed for a 13th season, which will air in 2026. The announcement came during the season 12 finale in March 2025.

The latest episode of When Calls the Heart had viewers on the edge of their seats as several prominent characters faced new paths forward, some of which may lead them away from Hope Valley for the time being. While nothing is known about season 13, the showrunner has given fans a few hints as to what they might expect next from the Hallmark series.

Here's all you need to know about When Calls the Heart Season 13, including what the cast and showrunner have teased.

While it has not been officially confirmed that all of the characters will return to Hope Valley for another season, numerous cast members have teased their return on social media.

In April 2025, Pascale Hutton, who plays Rosemary Coulter, posted an Instagram photo of herself with her on-screen husband, Kavan Smith, who plays Leland Coulter, and their fictitious kid, Marigold. In the post, Hutton teased season 13 of the show, saying, "The Coulters can't wait to see you next year!"

Amanda Wong, who portrays Mei Sou in the series, also expressed her enthusiasm for the show's renewal on social media. Wong posted a mirror selfie of herself in her character's attire, accompanied by the message, "Did you hear the news?!?!?" We will be returning for season 13!!!!!!!!!!! ❤️ We are grateful for your attendance at the continuation of the "when the heart calls" season.

In the interim, Jaeda Lily Miller, who portrays Allie Grant, posted a photograph of herself with Krakow, Kevin McGarry, and Hyland Goodrich, who play Elizabeth, Nathan Grant, and Jack Thornton Jr., respectively. In the caption, Miller hinted at the characters' potential return for a subsequent season, stating, "I trust that you have all found season 12 to be as enjoyable to watch as I did to film it." I will see you in Hope Valley next year.

The fate of Lucas Bouchard, who is portrayed by Chris McNally, was also alluded at by the official When Calls the Heart Instagram page. The account on Instagram posed the query, "What surprises does season thirteen have in store for Lucas?" We are eagerly anticipating the outcome!

The season 12 finale of When Calls the Heart left the future of several characters uncertain, including central characters Elizabeth, Nathan, Jack Jr., and Allie.

Elizabeth and her son were prepared to relocate from Hope Valley to Cape Fullerton in order to receive treatment for Jack Jr.'s diabetes in the season's final episode. Nevertheless, they were halted by Nathan, Elizabeth's romantic partner, who informed them that he and his niece and adopted daughter, Allie, would depart Hope Valley with them.

On the The Official Hearties Aftershow, Joy Gregory, who will serve as a showrunner for season 13, provided viewers with a glimpse of what may be in store for the upcoming season.

"I am ecstatic that we were able to launch them toward Cape Fullerton, effectively placing them in new territory. However, they are also very much in new territory," she stated of Elizabeth and Nathan. "They are now planning to co-parent with an individual who has a chronic illness."

Gregory also disclosed that the program would persist in its emphasis on "observing their relationship develop," which encompassed both "advantages and disadvantages."

The upcoming episodes will not exclusively concentrate on Elizabeth and Nathan; they will also explore Allie's transition into young adulthood and her companionship with Oliver Garrett (Jacob Shoemay), as well as delve deeper into the storyline of Minnie Canfield (Natasha Burnett).

Although Gregory did disclose, "We are still in the process of determining the extent to which we will document their time in Cape Fullerton. However, I would like to emphasize that home is where the heart is, and all of our hearts are in Hope Valley." It is uncertain whether Elizabeth and Nathan will remain in Cape Fullerton.
