Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III Join the Cast of 'Snowfall' Spinoff Pilot
The Gail Bean and Isaiah John-led Snowfall spinoff pilot at FX is expanding its cast.
Bean and John are joined in the pilot by series regulars Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III. Character descriptions are not yet available because the project is keeping them under wraps.
The plot is that is-Set in 90s Los Angeles soon after the end of the original series, a recovering addict (Bean) strives to take West Coast rap mainstream despite potential infighting from a harrowing gang war.
As previously reported, the project has been in the works for several years, with the initial announcement coming just before the Snowfall series conclusion in 2023. The project was initially reported to simply have Bean linked to it in 2023, but it appears that John has also been verified as it has progressed. John has been with the original series since its beginning, and Bean has been with the show since Season 2 and was promoted to series regular in the sixth and final season.
Blackk, an Emmy nominee for his work in Ava DuVernay's When They See Us, will also appear in Euphoria's third season. Smith recently concluded his major role in All American: Homecoming and starred in The CW's Legacies. Coincidentally, All American: Homecoming was a spinoff of All American, while Legacies was a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries.
Simms, a musician known by the stage name Buddy, will play his first major role. He has worked with Kendrick Lamar, Miley Cyrus, Chance the Rapper, Nipsey Hussle, and other artists since being signed by Pharrell Williams. His TV credits include Rap Sh!t and Bel-Air.
Malcolm Spellman wrote the pilot and executive produces it alongside Snowfall showrunner Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson. FX Productions is the studio.
