Body Believed to Be Lil Jon's Son Nathan Smith Found After Days-Long Search in Georgia
In a heartbreaking development, authorities in Milton, Georgia have recovered a body believed to be that of Nathan Smith, the 27-year-old son of Grammy-winning rapper and producer Lil Jon. Smith, who performed under the name DJ Young Slade, had been missing since Tuesday morning.
The discovery came Friday morning when a dive team from the Cherokee County Fire Department located a body in a pond at Mayfield Park, near the family's residence. Milton Police Department confirmed the finding in a statement released later that day.
According to police reports, Smith was last seen around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4th, when he ran from his home on Baldwin Drive near Mayfield Road. He left the residence barefoot, prompting immediate concern from family members who reported him missing shortly after.
The days-long search involved multiple K-9 units, a specialized bloodhound, and extensive efforts around Mayfield Park before the discovery was made.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office will work to officially confirm the identification and determine the cause and manner of death. At this time, Milton Police have stated that there is no indication of foul play, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Official Statement
"We extend our deepest condolences to the Smith family during this difficult time," the Milton Police Department said in their statement. "The department respectfully asks the community and members of the media to honor the family's request for privacy as they grieve and navigate this tragedy."
Earlier this week, a representative for Lil Jon, whose legal name is Jonathan Smith, had asked for privacy while requesting continued prayers for Nathan's safe return. The family has not issued additional statements following Friday's discovery.
Nathan Smith had been building his own career in music as DJ Young Slade, following in his father's footsteps in the entertainment industry. Lil Jon had previously expressed pride in working alongside his son, telling media outlets it was meaningful to share the same professional space.
The hip-hop community and fans around the world have begun expressing their condolences to the Smith family during this unimaginable loss. Lil Jon, known for his pioneering work in crunk music and hits like "Turn Down for What" and "Get Low," has maintained a significant presence in music for over two decades.
This is a developing story. We will continue to update as more information becomes available while respecting the family's privacy during their time of grief.
Our thoughts are with the Smith family.
