Hercy Miller is about to do what few sons ever get to do: play his father on the big screen.
The college basketball player, son of No Limit Records founder Master P, will portray his dad in Snoop, Universal's biopic of Snoop Dogg, Deadline reported. It is his first feature film role.
The casting carries real history. Master P signed Snoop Dogg to No Limit in 1998 after the rapper left Death Row Records, and Snoop released several albums on the label through 2001.
Miller has made no secret that he wanted this part. In an August interview with The Hype Magazine, he pointed to the Michael Jackson and N.W.A. biopics, where family members played the stars, and called playing his father a longtime dream.
Two more names joined the cast alongside him. Zachariah Rogers of Starz's P-Valley will play rapper The D.O.C., and actor-comedian Tyquan Givens, known online as Watts Homie Quan, will play an original character named B. Mack.
The news comes a day after Cynthia Erivo was cast as Tupac Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur.
Craig Brewer directs from a script he wrote with Joe Robert Cole. Jonathan Daviss of Outer Banks stars as Snoop Dogg, with Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as Tupac, Algee Smith as Warren G, Tre Hale as Suge Knight and Lauren London as Snoop's mother, Beverly Tate.
Snoop Dogg produces with Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker and Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum. The film will use music from Snoop's catalog and is the first project under Death Row Pictures' overall deal with NBCUniversal. Universal has dated Snoop for Aug. 6, 2027.
