Lin-Manuel Miranda's 'Octet' Just Assembled One Of The Most Exciting Casts In Recent Memory

Lin-Manuel Miranda is returning to the director's chair — and he brought everybody. Miranda and his 5000 Broadway Productions have announced the eight-person cast for Octet, the film adaptation of Dave Malloy's stage musical, featuring Jonathan Groff, Rachel Zegler, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Gaten Matarazzo, Amanda Seyfried, Phillipa Soo, Paul-Jordan Jansen, and Tramell Tillman. The story follows eight internet-obsessed people who meet in a church basement and lock their phones in a box, struggling with digital dependency and finding connection through nothing but the power of their own voices.  The cast assignments are chef's kiss — Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph plays Paula, newly minted Olivier winner Rachel Zegler plays Velma, Emmy winner Tramell Tillman plays Marvin, and Amanda Seyfried steps into the role of Jessica Playbill — a lineup that bridges Broadway royalty and screen excellence in one room. This marks Miranda's second time directing a feature film, following his acclaimed adaptation of tick, tick...BOOM! The Hollywood Reporter, and if that's any indication of what's coming, Octet is already a must-watch. Rehearsals are underway. We are ready.
