Law enforcement sources indicate that the Reiners suffered "lacerations consistent with a knife" and found no signs of forced entry at the home. Nick Reiner was located and arrested near the University of Southern California campus later on Sunday night.

The case has drawn significant attention due to Nick Reiner's documented history of severe drug addiction and past homelessness, struggles that inspired his father's 2016 film Being Charlie
