Matt Damon is the newest star to sign on to Stuntnuts, an action movie in which Chris Hemsworth and Sam Rockwell play heightened versions of themselves. Collider reported the casting Friday. Damon is the latest addition to a cast that already had Hemsworth and Rockwell on board, and details of his role have not been revealed.
A stuntman in the director's chair
The film is directed by Damien Walters, a stunt performer best known for his work alongside Daniel Craig during the James Bond era, especially on Skyfall. According to Collider, the project is meant as an homage to the stunt performers who make the biggest action blockbusters possible.
Putting a stunt veteran behind the camera fits the premise. Stunt work has long been one of the least celebrated crafts in Hollywood, and a movie built around it, with A-list actors poking fun at their own screen images, puts that work front and center.
Stuntnuts is produced by Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kingsman: The Secret Service, through UR MARV, his joint venture with soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo. The pairing of Vaughn and Ronaldo gives the project a global sports angle on top of its Hollywood cast.
With Damon on board, Stuntnuts now has three major leading men attached.
What we don't know yet
No studio, distributor, writer or release date has been announced, and the plot remains under wraps. With Hemsworth, Rockwell and Damon now attached, more casting news could follow.
