Neve Campbell is returning to the Scream franchise.
The actress has confirmed that she will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 8, extending her association with the horror series that began with Wes Craven's original 1996 film.
Campbell confirmed her involvement during an interview with the Associated Press while promoting the second season of Netflix's Black Doves.
Although she acknowledged that the eighth installment is in development, she declined to reveal details about the storyline.
Her return follows the commercial success of Scream 7, which earned approximately $208 million worldwide against a reported $45 million production budget, becoming the franchise's highest-grossing installment.
The seventh film brought Sidney back to the center of the story as a new Ghostface threat targeted her family.
Campbell previously sat out Scream VI in 2023 following a salary dispute, publicly questioning whether the offer reflected her contribution to the franchise.
She returned for the seventh installment after reportedly negotiating a significantly larger salary.
The eighth film is being developed by Spyglass Media, with Paramount Pictures expected to distribute.
Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, known for their work on Poker Face, are reportedly writing the screenplay. Kevin Williamson, who directed Scream 7, is expected to remain involved as a producer.
A director and release date have not been announced.
Campbell's continued involvement offers the franchise a recognizable connection to its origins, but it also presents a creative challenge.
After three decades, can Scream develop compelling new characters and threats while continuing to depend on Sidney Prescott?
For now, Ghostface's most enduring survivor is not finished fighting.
