Surprising Departure: Mehcad Brooks Is Leaving 'Law & Order' After Three Seasons
Mehcad Brooks is departing the enduring procedural Law & Order prior to its 25th season, having portrayed the character for three seasons on NBC.
After Anthony Anderson's departure, Brooks joined the program to portray Detective Jalen Shaw. Anderson had only inked a one-year contract to bring the show back to television after a lengthy absence.
Following six seasons of his role in The CW's Supergirl, this was Brooks's first significant role in some time.
"According to sources, the parting of the ways was mutual, with Brooks already exploring other opportunities," wrote Deadline, which exclusively broke the news of Brooks' departure.
What is currently known about the characters of 'Law & Order' Season 25?
Tony Goldwyn, Reid Scott, Hugh Dancy, Odelya Halevi, and Maura Tierny are also featured in Law & Order. According to Deadline, Dancy, Halevi, and Tierney have already been confirmed to return. However, there is currently no information regarding Goldwyn and Scott, whose contracts expired at the conclusion of Season 24.
The program is currently in the process of casting the new detective who will succeed Brooks.
Brooks is appearing in the current season of HBO Max's And Just Like That and will be seen in Mortal Kombat II in theaters this autumn, reprising his role from the first film.
The premiere date for the 25th season of "Law & Order" has not yet been announced.
Although an exact premiere date is not yet known, it is anticipated to premiere in the autumn for the 2025-26 broadcast television season.
