The Oscar’s are finally making voters watch all films

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has established a new rule that requires members to watch all nominated films in each category before voting on the awards. Previously, voters were simply invited to see nominated films and vote in the categories they felt eligible for.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has implemented a new rule requiring members to watch all nominated films in each category before voting on the winners. Previously, people were merely invited to watch nominated films and vote in the categories that they thought qualified for.

However, as the number of nominations has increased in recent years, several voters have admitted to not fully completing that responsibility.

According to the new system, Academy members will be followed on the organization's voters-only streaming platform to ensure they have watched each film.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, voters who watch movies elsewhere, like as in theaters or at festival screenings, will be required to "fill out a form" vouching for when and where they saw them.

Competing studios often arrange glamorous events to entice voters during their awards campaigns, including parties, screenings, and festival showings, which are occasionally followed by Q&A sessions with the actors and filmmakers.

The Academy also addressed a debate that developed during the last voting season, which was hampered by concerns about the use of artificial intelligence in films like "The Brutalist" and "Emilia Perez."

The Academy published recommendations on Monday, stating that AI and other digital tools will "neither help nor harm the chances of achieving a nomination."

The new guideline makes it clear that the use of technology is not disqualified.

"The Academy and each branch will judge the achievement, taking into account the degree to which a human was at the heart of the creative authorship when choosing which movie to award."
