The Presidency That Ended in Tragedy: Death by Lightning

Netflix released a trailer on Thursday for Death by Lightning, a four-part historical epic featuring Michael Shannon (known for Boardwalk Empire) as President James Garfield and Matthew Macfadyen (from Succession) as Garfield's greatest admirer—and eventual assassin—Charles Guiteau.

The limited series is set to premiere on Thursday, Nov. 6, and has gathered an impressive cast of Netflix alumni. Additional series regulars—featured in the trailer—include Shea Whigham (American Primeval) as Roscoe Conkling, Nick Offerman (The Umbrella Academy) as Chester Arthur, Bradley Whitford (The Diplomat) as James Blaine, and Betty Gilpin (GLOW) as Crete Garfield.

Rounding out the ensemble are guest stars Alistair Petrie (from Sex Education) as John Sherman, Archie Fisher (from Steve) as Joe Brown, Barry Shabaka Henley (from Forever) as Senator Blanche Bruce, Ben Miles (from The Crown) as George Scoville, Kyle Soller (from Andor) as Robert Todd Lincoln, Laura Marcus (from Bad Education) as Mollie Garfield, Paula Malcomson (from Ray Donovan) as Franny Scoville, Shaun Parkes (from Lost in Space) as Dr. Charles Purvis, Tuppence Middleton (from Black Mirror) as Kate Chase Sprague, Vondie Curtis Hall (from The Recruit) as Frederick Douglass, and Željko Ivanek (from Madam Secretary) as Dr. Doctor Bliss (yes, that’s his name).
