Tyler Perry Confirms Why Did I Get Married Again? Netflix Sequel is Coming

Tyler Perry has finalized the cast for Why Did I Get Married Again?, a sequel to his 2007 comedy Why Did I Get Married?, which he will headline for Netflix. The cast includes Taraji P. Henson, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker, Sharon Leal, Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’Vinchi, Laya Deleon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush.

The film is an adaptation of Perry’s play of the same name, which was released by Lionsgate. The original movie follows four married couples—close friends who gather once a year for a weeklong vacation. While the retreat is intended to help them relax and reconnect, it quickly becomes a critical examination of the underlying issues in their relationships.

In the sequel, the couples come together to celebrate as Marcus (White) and Angela’s (Smith) daughter prepares to get married. After being apart for a while, they quickly realize that some things remain constant despite changes. Recognizing that their children have grown up to mirror their traits, they must reflect on the examples they have set and ponder the timeless question: why did they get married… again?

Perry will direct from his script and produce alongside Angi Bones and Tony Strickland. This project marks the latest development in his creative partnership with Netflix, where he has been writing, directing, and producing films and TV series—some of which are faith-based—for the streaming platform. His most recent film from this collaboration, Madea's Destination Wedding, spent four weeks on the Global Top 10 Movies (English) List. Another successful film, Straw, which also stars Henson, spent five weeks on the Global Top 10 Movies List (English). Straw reached the Top 10 Movies List in 93 countries and achieved the #1 spot in 62 of those countries.
