"Barbershop" TV Series is Officially Happening at Prime Video with New Cast

The iconic world of Calvin's barbershop is heading to the small screen! Amazon Prime Video has officially ordered a new comedy series based on the beloved film franchise, simply titled

Barbershop

. The show promises the same lively atmosphere, sharp fades, and passionate debates that made the films a cultural classic, with an all-new cast.

The Premise: New Faces, Same Iconic Shop

The television adaptation revolves around Travis "Trav" Porter (played by Jermaine Fowler), who endeavors to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, a legendary barber at the iconic "Calvin's" barbershop in Chicago.

While the barbers may be new, the spirit of the shop remains unchanged: it's where the community comes together for way more than just a haircut.

The Cast and Creative Team

Jermaine Fowler (Coming 2 America, Sorry to Bother You) leads the ensemble cast. Recent additions to the series regular cast include talented comedians and actors:

  • Roy Wood Jr. (The Daily Show) as Robert, an ex-con turned barber.

  • Punkie Johnson (Saturday Night Live) as Stella, a no-nonsense barber skeptical of Trav's return.

  • Brett Gray (On My Block) as Kofi, a flamboyant and outspoken character.

  • E.J. Bonilla (The Old Man) as Fernan, a Bronx-born barber who allies with Trav.

The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and executive produced by a powerhouse team including Kevin Hart's Hartbeat Productions and Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original Barbershop film's screenplay. Max Searle serves as co-showrunner alongside Todd.

Production and Release

Filming for the series is currently underway in Chicago at Cinespace Studios, having begun in November 2025. An official premiere date has not yet been announced, but the show is expected to stream exclusively on Prime Video in the near future.
