Paramount Pictures has put a date on its next trip into the G.I. Joe universe. The studio said Friday that the untitled film based on the Hasbro toy line, directed by Danny McBride and starring Bradley Cooper as Duke, will open wide in theaters on Oct. 20, 2028.
The date was first reported by TheWrap, which described the project as a reimagining of the long-running franchise. Plot details are still being kept quiet.
McBride takes the lead behind the camera
McBride wrote the screenplay with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Zev Foreman are producing for Hasbro Entertainment. The movie is part of Hasbro Entertainment's push to turn its brands into films and series.
With Cooper attached as Duke, the film has a major star at its center, and the nearly two-year runway gives Paramount plenty of time to roll out the rest of the cast.
Cup of Soul has followed Cooper's recent work as a filmmaker, including his film Is This Thing On?
'Paranormal Activity' moves to October 2027
Paramount also shifted the untitled Paranormal Activity film from May 21, 2027, to Oct. 22, 2027, placing the horror title in the Halloween corridor. Ian Tuason directs, and the film stars Chase Yi, Sonia Mena and Maya Da Costa.
Paramount and Blumhouse Atomic are financing and producing the movie together, with Paramount handling worldwide distribution. Franchise creator Oren Peli produces for Solana Films, while James Wan and Jason Blum produce for Blumhouse Atomic.
According to TheWrap, the original Paranormal Activity grossed nearly $194 million worldwide, and the seven-film franchise has earned more than $900 million globally.
