SINGLE BLACK TENANT | Lifetime Thriller Starring Tia Mowry
Premieres June 27, 2026 at 8/7c on Lifetime
Tia Mowry is back on Lifetime — and this time, she's not just in front of the camera. The actress and producer stars in and executive produces Single Black Tenant, a new thriller premiering June 27 at 8/7c as part of the network's Ripped From the Headlines programming slate. Inspired by actual events, the film centers on Esme Williams (Mowry), who, after years of scraping by, finally believes her luck has turned after landing an affordable apartment in a quiet Cleveland neighborhood. But her relief quickly gives way to fear when she begins to suspect she's living with a killer who is trying to frame her for murder. As disturbing clues mount—Angie's erratic behavior and blood-soaked rags in a vacant unit—Esme suspects Angie has murdered the real landlord and is framing her as the scapegoat. With the police refusing to step in, Esme takes matters into her own hands, obsessively piecing together evidence until the truth can no longer be ignored. What makes Single Black Tenant worth your Saturday night? It taps into something real — the vulnerability of being a Black woman navigating systems that weren't built to protect you. When the police disbelieve Esme, she remains strong. She investigates. That self-determination at the center of this story is what provides it weight beyond the standard Lifetime thriller formula.Mowry brings a grounded, relatable quality to these roles, and as the executive producer, she has a vested interest in the creative process. The film is produced by Bruce Harvey for CMW Mountain Productions, Inc., and sits squarely within Lifetime's tradition of centering Black women's stories through a suspense lens—a lane the network has leaned into heavily and profitably since Single Black Female broke records in 2022.
