Aldis Hodge and Wunmi Mosaku Team Up for George Tillman Jr. Thriller “One Night Out”
Two of the most reliable actors working today are finally sharing the screen.
Aldis Hodge and Wunmi Mosaku will star in “One Night Out,” a new thriller from Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures. George Tillman Jr. will direct. The film will stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.
The story
The premise is every parent’s nightmare. A couple going through a rough patch in their marriage finally takes a rare night out and leaves a babysitter home with their three kids. Then they spot someone in the house on the nanny cam. Now they have to race home and work together to save their children.
Nelson Greaves wrote the script, based on his own short story.
A long-awaited collaboration
Tillman, whose credits include “Soul Food” and “The Hate U Give,” said he’d wanted to work with both actors for years. They had talked about collaborating before, and he’d been waiting for the right project to bring them together.
That’s a strong creative pairing. Tillman has spent decades telling Black stories with warmth and weight. Putting him with Hodge and Mosaku in a contained, high-stakes thriller about a Black family under pressure is promising.
Busy seasons for both
Hodge’s partnership with Amazon keeps growing. He stars in and executive produces the Prime Video hit “Cross,” based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels, which was renewed for a third season earlier this year. Next, he’ll appear opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in “Road House 2” for Amazon MGM. He also recently starred in the indie film “The Dutchman,” which premiered at SXSW in 2025.
Mosaku is having a moment of her own. After her acclaimed turn in Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” she’s in theaters this weekend as part of the ensemble cast of Aaron Sorkin’s “The Social Reckoning.” (https://www.cupofsoulshow.com/entertainmentnews/the-social-reckoning-reviews-box-office)
Why it matters
Hodge has spent years quietly building a résumé that runs from “Leverage” and “Underground” to “Hidden Figures,” “One Night in Miami...” and “The Invisible Man.” Now he’s leading a franchise series. Mosaku has become one of the most in-demand character actors in the business, and her breakthrough year shows no signs of slowing down.
