Sixteen Years Later, the 'Why Did I Get Married' Crew Still Has Questions

Sixteen years after we last saw them, the couples from Tyler Perry's beloved "Why Did I Get Married?" franchise are back — and this time, the next generation is walking down the aisle. In the Netflix threequel, the friends reunite as Marcus (Michael Jai White) and Angela's (Tasha Smith) daughter prepares to tie the knot. After years apart, the group quickly discovers that as much as things change, they stay the same — and watching their children grow into mirror images of themselves forces each couple to reckon with the examples they've set, asking that age-old question one more time: why did they get married... again?

Perry writes, directs, produces, and stars, with Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Lamman Rucker, and Sharon Leal reprising their roles, and Taraji P. Henson joining the ensemble. Da'Vinchi, Laya Deleon Hayes, and Jaden Michael are among the newcomers playing the grown kids. The film premieres on Netflix in 2026.
