Will Smith Touches Down in Sydney as Production Begins on Action-Thriller "Supermax"
Will Smith has landed in Sydney, Australia, marking the start of principal photography on his highly anticipated action-thriller Supermax — the actor's first major theatrical vehicle to move into production since the box office success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
Production officially got underway this week in New South Wales, with support from the state government, as Smith and his co-stars settled into the Sydney sound stages that will serve as the film's home through the fall. The shoot is expected to run into November.

Directed by David Gordon Green (Halloween, Pineapple Express, The Exorcist: Believer) from a script by David Weil and David J. Rosen, Supermax follows two FBI agents investigating a murder that seems impossible on its face — a killing carried out inside the walls of the world's most secure prison. Smith leads as the senior agent on the case, with AnnaSophia Robb, fresh off her breakout turn in Rebel Ridge, playing his younger partner.
The project comes from Amazon MGM Studios and a revived Miramax, with Amazon MGM having closed a worldwide rights deal reported to be worth roughly $70 million. True to the current streaming-first playbook, Supermax is bypassing a traditional theatrical run in favor of a direct release on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories.

Behind the camera, The Picture Company's Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing alongside Smith and Adam Fishbach for Westbrook Studios, with Weil and Rosen executive producing alongside Miramax's Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, Thom Zadra, and Spencer Ela.
