El Jardín Inn & Little Havana: A Passport Pour Guide
This stay was hosted by El Jardín Inn. As always, the opinions are my own.
El Jardín Inn is an 18-room boutique hotel tucked one block off Calle Ocho. That makes it a rare thing in Miami: a stay where the neighborhood is the main event and the courtyard is the reward.
The stay
El Jardín Inn opened in 2026 after a $4 million makeover turned an abandoned apartment block into 18 suites wrapped around a garden courtyard.
The rooms. Every suite has a fully equipped kitchenette and a walk-in shower, so a slow morning or a late-night snack doesn't mean leaving your room. Expect bright white bedding, soft neutrals and plenty of natural light. High-speed Wi-Fi and spaces to work make longer trips easy.
The courtyard. This is the heart of the place: shaded lounges, yellow café tables, bunting overhead and tucked-away corners under the palms. Every day at 4 pm the office pours free cafecito. Grab one and settle in.
The art. Hand-painted murals by Miami artists, including CP1, Krave, Diana Paz and El Fresco Crew, cover the walls. The inn also runs rotating art installations and an artist residency.
The welcome. A Little Havana welcome kit waits in your room: postcards, an El Jardín tote, a tiny cafecito cup and Marie biscuits to go with it.
Steps from the inn
The inn sits on SW 7th Street, one block north of Calle Ocho, so Little Havana's best-known corners are a short walk from your door.
Domino Park (Máximo Gómez Park), 801 SW 15th Ave. Regulars play dominoes over Cuban coffee. The games are mostly for members, but anyone can watch.
Tower Theater, 1508 SW 8th St. A historic Art Deco cinema showing Cuban and Latin American films.
Ball & Chain, 1513 SW 8th St. Open since 1935, with live Latin music, salsa, Cuban bites and cocktails.
Calle Ocho Walk of Fame, along SW 8th St. Stars for Latin music and entertainment legends, set into the sidewalk.
Start your day with a cafecito at the park, then come back after dark for live music.
Where to eat
You can't leave Little Havana without a Cuban plate. El Pub, at 1548 SW 8th St, is a family-run spot in its third generation, with walls covered in Cuban memorabilia. I had the ropa vieja with black beans and crispy tostones. Don't skip the ventanita, its walk-up window, for a cafecito, pastelitos or croquetas. On Friday evenings, Trio Cubanía plays live inside.
