Blair Underwood Is Scrubbing In Doc Season 3 Just Got a Major Upgrade

Fox's breakout medical drama just handed its most compelling prescription yet: Blair Underwood is joining Doc as a series regular for Season 3 — and the diagnosis looks electric.

The news comes hot on the heels of Doc landing an official Season 3 renewal from Fox — its second straight 22-episode full-season order, a rarity in today's streaming-era television landscape. The show has clearly become one of Fox's crown jewels, and the network is investing accordingly.

Underwood will play Dr. Ben Grant, a world-class trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon set on a collision course with series lead Dr. Amy Larsen (Molly Parker). Audiences will get their first look at Dr. Grant when he guest stars in the two-hour Doc Season 2 finale on April 14, before transitioning into a full series regular role in Season 3.

"A world-class trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon with an ego that somehow outpaces even his resume. A once-in-a-generation talent with the swagger to match, he doesn't just save lives — he owns the OR. Impossibly magnetic and even more confident, he's never not been the smartest person in the room… until he meets Dr. Amy Larsen."

f that description sounds like must-watch television, that's because it is. Underwood brings the kind of gravitas and charisma this role demands — and the chemistry between his Dr. Grant and Parker's Dr. Larsen promises to be one of the most talked-about dynamics of the new television season.

Underwood's recent work has been nonstop. He currently stars in Youngblood, the reimagining of the 1980s hockey film alongside Rob Lowe, and recently wrapped production on the upcoming Netflix romance Don't Ever Wonder opposite Larenz Tate and Nia Long. He also directed, produced, and stars in the psychological thriller Viral, and co-starred in RZA's indie film One Spoon of Chocolate, which premiered at Tribeca. The man is everywhere — and for good reason.

Underwood succeeds Felicity Huffman, who joined Doc for a year-long arc in Season 2 — a testament to the show's growing ability to attract high-profile talent for rotating roles that deepen the drama without overstaying their welcome.

Based on the Italian drama Doc – Nelle tue mani, the series follows Dr. Amy Larsen as she continues to rebuild her life after a car crash erased eight years of her memory. Season 2 is currently airing on Fox Tuesday nights, with its two-hour finale set for April 14 — which will serve as Underwood's grand entrance into the Westside Hospital universe.

Season 3 is expected to premiere in fall 2026. Mark your calendars — Westside Hospital just got a whole lot more interesting.
