"Gangs of London" Expansion: Vice Studios Eyeing Miami and Johannesburg Settings
The brutal crime world of Gangs of London could soon be expanding beyond the UK's capital. Amy Powell, the president of Vice Studios, which now produces the series, has raised the possibility of transforming the hit show into a global franchise with future installments set in major international cities like Miami and Johannesburg.
A Global "Marvel" Ambition
Speaking at the Content London industry gathering, Powell expressed ambitious plans for the intellectual property (IP), using a surprising benchmark: Marvel.
"Can we take Gangs and expand it to a different city, with ambitions as ridiculous as this sounds as to what Marvel does?" Powell stated, highlighting the studio's desire to build a connected universe of crime dramas set in different locales.
She also specifically mentioned exploring versions of the show set in Johannesburg or Cape Town, acknowledging the interest in African content.
Season 4 to Remain in London (For Now)
While a global expansion is being discussed for potential future seasons (Season 5 and beyond), the immediate future of the franchise remains firmly rooted in the UK.
Gangs of London has officially been renewed for a fourth season.
Filming for Season 4 is currently scheduled to begin in January 2026 and will take place in London and the surrounding counties, returning to familiar locations.
The upcoming Season 3, which has already aired in some markets and focuses on a massive cocaine crisis in London's underworld, also remains set in a fictionalized "Gotham-like" London.
What This Means for Fans
The potential move to new cities indicates that the producers view "Gangs of London" as a rolling theme rather than being strictly tied to one location. The show's creator, Gareth Evans, has previously hinted at this, noting, "There's a clue in the title: 'Gangs of London' is plural".
Fans can expect the same high level of brutal action and intricate storytelling, just possibly with a new skyline in future iterations.
